TAT Hosts the “Khao Gaeng” Thai Curry Rice Championship 2025

A nationwide competition highlighting Thailand’s iconic curry rice is set to take place in Bangkok this October.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is excited to announce the “Khao Gaeng” Thai Curry Rice Championship 2025 taking place from October 17 to 19 at Phenix Pratunam in Bangkok. This event will highlight Thailand’s famous curry rice as a symbol of the country’s culinary identity and a dish every international traveler should try.

Thapanee Kiatphaibool, the TAT Governor, shared:

“Khao Gaeng, or Thai curry rice, is more than a quick meal. It embodies the diversity of Thai cuisine, with each region offering its own flavors. It is widely available throughout Thailand and reflects local culture, with restaurants even featured in the Michelin Guide. TAT aims to position it as a must-have experience for global visitors.”

This initiative is organized in collaboration with the Thai Restaurant Association, food delivery services like LINE MAN Wongnai, Grab, and Robinhood, and several culinary institutions.

The competition will feature five signature dishes:

  • Green Curry with Chicken (kaeng khiao wan gai)
  • Coconut Chicken Soup (tom kha gai)
  • Beef Panang Curry
  • Five-Spice Egg and Pork Belly Stew (kai palo)
  • Shrimp-Paste Chilli Dip (nam prik kapi)

Approximately 30 vendors, ranging from street stalls to restaurant chains, are expected to compete. Contestants must have been in operation for at least one year and will be judged on aspects including taste, quality, and hygiene.

Winners will receive cash prizes, with the champion receiving 100,000 Baht, a trophy, and the title of Professional Thai Curry Rice Champion. Runners-up will also win cash prizes.

The competition will take place at Phenix Pratunam, a culinary destination for both locals and visitors, boosting the profile of Thai cuisine nationally and internationally.
