Hong Kong Airlines Resumes Service to Gold Coast, Australia

The airline marks its return with a ceremonial inaugural flight just in time for the Lunar New Year.

Hong Kong Airlines celebrated the revival of its route connecting Hong Kong to Australia’s Gold Coast, becoming the first local airline to reinstate this much-awaited service after a hiatus. To celebrate this occasion, a welcoming ceremony was conducted at the boarding gate prior to the departure of the inaugural flight.

Hong Kong Airlines President Jeff Sun, along with representatives from Gold Coast and Queensland Airports, participated in the inaugural function, interacting with travelers and gifting them to commemorate the moment.

Sun embraced the role of co-pilot on flight HX015 to Gold Coast.

Upon the arrival of the flight at 8:55 AM, passengers were greeted with a vibrant traditional lion dance, organized by the airport.

This route resumption signifies Hong Kong Airlines’ initial engagement in the long-haul sector. The airline is working on expanding its fleet to support new routes including options within Australia and a return to North America.

Additionally, Hong Kong Airlines is assessing the prospects of introducing services to Los Angeles, Seattle, and Toronto, aiming to enhance its passengers’ international travel choices.

Hong Kong Airlines chair Yan Bo expressed, “We are thrilled to host a full flight, with about 300 travelers eager to explore Queensland’s warm climate and vibrant tourist attractions. We also anticipate welcoming visitors from Gold Coast and Queensland region to Hong Kong during this operational period, offering an invitation to enjoy the lively atmosphere of the Chinese Lunar New Year celebrations alongside authentic Hong Kong cuisine.”

In a statement, Sun noted, “As one of Hong Kong’s leading full-service airlines, we are dedicated to delivering high-quality, comprehensive travel services, inclusive of flexible baggage options, complimentary meals on board, and comfortable seating arrangements, ensuring every passenger enjoys a delightful journey.”

We hope this connection with Hong Kong will facilitate long-term services across our crucial markets including Hong Kong, the Greater Bay Area, and Mainland China.”
