Expansion of a&o Heidelburg: Largest Hostel Group Grows in Germany

a&o Hostels announces the opening of a new property in Heidelberg, marking their continued growth in Germany.

Expansion Across Key Cities in Europe

After opening new hostels in Brighton, Antwerp, and Brussels, a&o Hostels continues to expand in Europe with its latest acquisition in Heidelberg, marking its 43rd property overall and 26th in Germany.

The new hostel in Heidelberg will be a five-storey building consisting of 118 rooms and 320 beds, with an expected completion date in late 2026. The building project is set to commence in spring 2025 as part of a deal with BHB Heidelberg GmbH. Their owners, Proprium Capital Partners and StepStone Group, have earmarked over 500 million euros for further investments.

The city of Heidelberg, with a rich historical background and beautiful architecture, attracts about 14 million tourists annually, making it an attractive market for a&o Hostels.

Oliver Winter, CEO of a&o Hostels, expressed confidence in the company’s growth strategy, stating, “Germany remains a very exciting market for our expansion.”

Philipp Westermann from Proprium Capital Partners added optimism about the hostel’s scalable opportunities within major European cities. Robert Waidhaas emphasizes that collaborating with experienced partners will enhance the revitalization of Heidelberg.

This significant step forward showcases a&o’s commitment to a carefully planned growth strategy, underpinned by substantial investment and confidence in the hostel sector’s outlook in Germany.
