Wonsan-Kalma is slated to open in June of this year

Russian travel agency Vostok Intur is now inviting tourists to explore the new Wonsan-Kalma tourist zone on North Korea’s east coast. This initiative, confirmed on January 24, aims to make Russian tourists the first foreign visitors to this destination.

As of now, the Vladivostok-based agency has announced three tour dates to Wonsan-Kalma, starting in July.

On its Telegram channel, Vostok Intur stated in Russian: “Be the first guests and enjoy an unforgettable vacation in one of the world’s most ecologically pristine locations, featuring exceptional entertainment options for every budget, as well as a variety of restaurants to suit all tastes.”

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un inspected Wonsan-Kalma, noting it as the “first big step” in developing tourism and hailed it as “magnificent.”

An Eight-Day Getaway

The initial tour will last eight days, commencing from July 7 to July 14. Two additional tours are planned for August, each priced at $1,400 USD, not including additional costs in Russian rubles. The package includes seven nights with three meals daily, all flights, and tours in Pyongyang on the return trip. According to an official announcement, Wonsan-Kalma will open in June after a decade of construction and is expected to help accumulate foreign currency amidst international sanctions.
