Chulalongkorn University Launches New App for Muslim Travelers to Thailand

A new mobile application to assist Muslim travelers visiting Thailand has been launched by Chulalongkorn University.

Chulalongkorn University’s Halal Science Centre of Thailand recently launched a new travel app called Halal Route.

Halal Route was created to help foreign Muslim travellers explore Thailand with ease through reliable, detailed, and easy-to-use information.

Application features include:

  • Lists of Halal-certified restaurants by cuisine
  • Directions to nearby mosques
  • Accommodations with prayer rooms and Halal food
  • A Qibla compass
  • Daily prayer schedules
  • An Islamic calendar

Freely available for both Android and iOS devices, Halal Route can be accessed in Thai, English, and Arabic, making it accessible to both local and international users.

Meeting Evolving Needs

This application was created to assist the growing number of Muslim travellers visiting Thailand, which, alongside Malaysia and Indonesia, is becoming a key destination for Islamic travel.

As of last year, the global Muslim travel market showed robust recovery with nearly 145 million Muslim travellers; predictions indicate this number could reach 168 million this year. In Thailand, Muslim traveller numbers have rebounded to about 90% of pre-pandemic levels.
