Birmingham Airport to Introduce Barrierless Drop-Off System in Spring 2025

Birmingham Airport has announced plans to implement a barrier-free system for vehicles dropping off passengers at its Premium Set Down areas, set to be introduced in phases beginning February 2025. The objective is to alleviate congestion during peak times by enhancing traffic flow.

“Scheduled to launch this Spring, the new barrier-free system will simplify passenger drop-offs, enhance vehicular surface access by offering a smoother and faster experience. By minimizing waiting times for drivers, it will enhance traffic flow and improve efficiency across the area.”
– Nikki Bains, Head of Planning, Transport and Strategy at Birmingham Airport

The system will utilize Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology, removing the need for physical parking barriers to allow seamless vehicle exits. Drivers will be billed the relevant tariff within 24 hours of leaving the car park, with various payment options available for added convenience.

This initiative is part of Birmingham Airport’s commitment to reduce carbon emissions and promote environmental sustainability, aiming for Net Zero Carbon by 2033.
