Virgin Atlantic Expands Operations in India

Virgin Atlantic is bolstering its presence in India with new routes and increased flight capacity.

Virgin Atlantic has significantly expanded its operations in India, enhancing its presence with a new destination and increased seating capacity.

The airline is now offering five daily flights between the UK and India, a move that makes this country its second-largest international market following the US.

On March 31, Virgin Atlantic commenced its third Indian route, providing daily flights from London Heathrow to Bangalore using a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. This positions Virgin Atlantic as the fifth European airline to operate at Kempegowda International Airport, facing competition from British Airways.

Due to a rise in bilateral agreements from London to Delhi and Mumbai, on October 27, 2024, Virgin Atlantic will add a second daily flight on the London Heathrow to Mumbai route, utilizing 397-seat Airbus A350-1000 planes. This route is also served by British Airways and Air India.

By 2025, Virgin Atlantic intends to offer over a million seats to India, marking a staggering 336% increase in capacity compared to 2019. Furthermore, Virgin Atlantic Cargo is set to provide over 40 million kilograms of cargo capacity to and from India.

The airline’s schedule includes two daily flights from London Heathrow to Delhi, operated with Airbus A350-1000s and Boeing 787-9s.

A codeshare agreement with IndiGo allows connections to various Indian cities, including Ahmedabad, Goa, and Hyderabad.

2025 will mark the 25th anniversary of Virgin Atlantic’s operations in India, during which time it will introduce one million annual seats, highlighting the airline’s optimism about the growing Indian market and the increasing demand for international travel from the country.
