Japan Reduces Travel Advisory for Mindanao in the Philippines

Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has downgraded travel warnings for various regions in Mindanao, which is expected to enhance tourism.

Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has decreased the travel advisories for certain areas in Mindanao, indicating that these regions are now considered safe for tourists. This decision received positive feedback from the Philippine Department of Tourism, which hopes to revive tourism in the area.

As of December 19, the travel warning for the Davao region was lowered from Level 2 to Level 1. The areas affected include Davao del Norte, Davao de Oro, Davao del Sur, Davao Occidental, and Davao Oriental, while cities like Davao, Digos, Mati, Samal, and Tagum remain at Level 1.

Additionally, the travel advisory for Surigao City in the CARAGA region and Misamis Oriental has also been downgraded from Level 2 to Level 1. The cities and islands in these areas, including Cagayan de Oro City, Jasaan, Villanueva, Tagoloan, and Siargao, continue to hold Level 1 status.

Japan has also adjusted the travel advisory for the eastern parts of Sarangani Province, moving it from Level 3 to Level 2. However, the western parts, including Maitum, Kiamba, and Maasim, still remain at Level 3.

Advisory Levels Explained:

  • Level 1: Advised to exercise increased caution.
  • Level 2: Travelers are discouraged from any non-essential or non-urgent trips to the area.
  • Level 3: Travelers are urged to avoid these areas altogether.
