Prospective Tourism Growth in Hong Kong with New Development Plan

The new strategic model aims to significantly enhance the tourism revenue in Hong Kong by attracting a diverse range of high-value visitors.

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) plans to elevate the value generated by the tourism sector to US$15.46 billion by 2029, significantly up from HK$75.3 billion in 2023.

According to the Development Blueprint for Hong Kong’s Tourism Industry 2.0, the region anticipates that the travel and tourism sectors will employ 210,000 individuals in 2029, as opposed to 145,600 in 2023.

Blueprint 2.0 lays out strategic measures through 2029, concentrating on creating a diverse array of visitor markets targeting affluent overnight guests. It also emphasizes ‘smart tourism’ and the enhancement of tourism products and service quality across the region.

Rosanna Law stated, “The tourism industry encompasses various service sectors and its comprehensive development relies on community support. Residents of Hong Kong should view themselves as tourism ambassadors, welcoming every visitor with warmth.”

Key Strategies:

  1. Develop a diversified portfolio of visitor markets.
  2. Promote smart tourism initiatives.
  3. Enhance service quality and support in the tourism sector.

The blueprint identifies 133 measures across four strategic areas aimed at achieving these goals.
