Delta's Service Adjustments Amid Severe Weather Threat
Delta Airlines announces operational changes in response to Winter Storm Blair affecting numerous airports on the East Coast.
Delta’s Service Adjustments Amid Severe Weather Threat
Winter Storm Blair is advancing eastward, causing heavy snow and ice in several cities throughout the Central Plains, Ohio Valley, and mid-Atlantic region. Delta anticipates disruptions at airports in the D.C. Metro area and along the East Coast on January 6, 2025.
The safety of Delta employees and customers remains the highest priority while managing flight delays, cancellations, and service resumption tailored to weather conditions.
Customer Care
Delta has released a travel waiver for affected cities in the Central U.S., allowing travelers flexibility to modify or cancel their flight bookings ahead of the impending storm. In the case of flight cancelations, Delta will aim to rebook customers on the next available flights.
- Customers are encouraged to monitor their flight status through delta.com or the Fly Delta app.
- Support from Delta’s Operations and Customer Center (OCC) will provide early notices on any flight changes.
- Updates can also be received via direct notifications to mobile devices or through email.
Rebooking and Refund Eligibility for Flight Disruptions
Passengers whose flights experience significant delays or cancellations have several options. Customers on domestic itineraries who face a three-hour delay may receive a full refund for unused portions of their tickets. The same refund eligibility extends to international itinerary passengers who face delays longer than six hours.
If a flight is canceled, and passengers choose not to travel on a rebooked itinerary, Delta will automatically process a full refund to the original payment method, usually within 24 hours after the cancellation notice.
In the event of a cancellation, unaffected customers who aren’t automatically rebooked should reach out to Delta for alternative flight arrangements either at the airport or through the Reservations team by phone or via the Fly Delta app.
