Almatar Travel Solutions has partnered with African digital travel platform Wakanow to enhance air connectivity and expand travel services across the continent.
Saudi Arabia’s almatar Travel Solutions has entered into a strategic partnership with Wakanow, a prominent digital travel platform in Africa, aimed at enhancing air connectivity and broadening access to travel services across the continent.
Under this agreement, almatar will assist Wakanow in offering better flight booking services to customers in over 15 African nations, utilizing its strengths in travel technology and airline content distribution. This collaboration is set to improve access to flight inventory while enhancing the overall digital booking experience for users in key African markets.
The timing of this partnership is crucial as Africa’s travel industry is rapidly evolving into a digital landscape, leading to increased demand for seamless and technology-driven booking solutions. By incorporating almatar’s technology into Wakanow’s platform, both companies aim to capitalize on emerging opportunities in a market that is progressively influenced by mobile-first consumers and cross-border travel needs.
Founded in 2008 in Nigeria, Wakanow manages over 34 travel service centers in addition to its digital platform, catering to millions of users continent-wide. This partnership will enable the expansion of flight offerings, positioning Wakanow as a pivotal travel gateway in Africa.
Backed by Saudi Arabia’s Tech Aspirations
The agreement was signed under the auspices of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), underscoring Saudi Arabia’s overarching strategy to bolster the global growth of its technology sector. Discussing this partnership, Mohammed Alrobayan, the Deputy Minister for Technology at MCIT, remarked: “This partnership showcases the maturity and competitiveness of Saudi technology companies, as well as their capacity to create scalable digital solutions for global markets.” This collaboration aligns with the Kingdom’s ambitions to establish its technology firms as international leaders, especially in rapidly growing fields like travel and digital services.
Promoting Cross-Border Cooperation under Vision 2030
This partnership not only aims to enhance connectivity but also reflects a notable trend of collaboration between the Middle East and Africa, particularly within the digital economy. It supports Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 objectives, which emphasize diversifying the economy, boosting non-oil exports, and expanding the global presence of Saudi companies. By granting African platforms access to advanced travel technology solutions, this deal illustrates how Saudi firms are exporting not just services but also digital innovation and infrastructure to international markets.
