Songkran 2026 to Enhance Thailand's Tourism Revenue

The Songkran Festival 2026 is set to generate significant economic returns for Thailand, marking a notable increase in both domestic and international tourism.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has announced its outstanding results for the Songkran Festival 2026, projecting over $830 million (30.35 billion Baht) in tourism revenue. Celebrated from April 11 to 15, the festival is set to see a 6% growth in revenue compared to the previous year, showcasing Thailand’s draw as a cultural hub for both locals and international tourists.

Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool commented, “The strong performance of Songkran 2026 highlights the global appeal of Thailand’s cultural charm.” The standout event, the Maha Songkran World Water Festival held at Benjakitti Park in Bangkok, attracted 108,640 visitors, significantly boosting economic contributions.

In Bangkok, areas like Silom Road and Khao San Road saw high attendance. Unique traditions such as the “Songkran with Elephants” in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya also drew crowds. Notably, tourism flourished along the south, with Songkhla’s Sadao border reporting over 36,000 crossings, mainly from Malaysian visitors.

International visitor numbers during the festival are expected to hit around 500,000, a 4% increase from last year, generating approximately $222 million (8.1 billion Baht). Domestic trips are projected to reach 5.96 million, adding about $610 million (22.25 billion Baht) to the economy.

As the festival wraps up on April 15, selected destinations will maintain celebrations, ensuring sustained travel momentum and extending the festival’s economic impact. Songkran continues to be a vital driver of Thailand’s tourism sector, reinforcing its reputation for rich cultural experiences.
