In March 2026, Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport marked a historic milestone as it welcomed over two million passengers in a single month for the first time, totaling 2,076,522 travelers. This represents a 9.4% increase compared to March 2025.
The surge in passengers is attributed to a significant rise in domestic traffic alongside the continued growth of international travel, collectively providing a positive balance for the Málaga infrastructure. Commercial flights comprised the majority of the activity, with 2,072,881 operations, out of which 363,515 were domestic (+12.5%) while 1,709,366 were international (+8.8%).
Among international routes, the UK market led with 435,352 passengers, followed by Germany (164,408), the Netherlands (123,546), Italy (98,646), Ireland (90,722), Poland (88,957), and France (87,677).
In the first quarter, the airport managed 5,092,675 passengers, marking a 6.3% increase over the same period last year. Of those, 5,079,079 flew commercially, with 937,405 originating from or heading to Spain (+8.1%), while 4,141,674 flew internationally (+5.9%).
Group results show Aena’s airports concluded March 2026 with 29,999,078 passengers, a 4.3% increase from March 2025, handling 264,381 aircraft movements (+6%) and transporting 127,610 tons of cargo (+0.5%). In the first quarter, Aena registered 81,263,915 passengers (+3.8%), 704,326 aircraft movements (+1.3%), and 363,415 tons of cargo (+4.8%).
The month was also notably impacted by the transfer of passengers from rail services due to a rail accident on January 18 and the timing of Holy Week, which this year spanned March to April, unlike the previous year.
