RTA Initiates Comprehensive Pavement Overhaul in Dubai

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority starts significant maintenance on pavements to enhance urban infrastructure.

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a comprehensive maintenance and rehabilitation initiative for pavements across the emirate, covering an area of 90,000 square metres. The project aligns with RTA’s preventive maintenance plans for 2026, aiming to enhance the quality and performance of pavements, preserve the urban landscape, and support infrastructure sustainability.

In 2025, RTA successfully maintained and rehabilitated 88,000 square metres of pavements across various residential, tourist, commercial, economic, and coastal areas in Dubai. Abdulla Ali Lootah, Director of Roads and Facilities Maintenance at RTA, emphasized the importance of these efforts, stating, “> “Pavement maintenance forms an integral part of RTA’s strategy to preserve road furniture, maintain high standards of quality and safety, extend service life, and strengthen long-term sustainability.”

The 2026 maintenance works will target key areas including Al Nahda 2, Al Baraha, Nad Shamma, Nad Al Hamar, Al Muhaisnah 1, 2, and 3, Al Twar 4, Al Barsha 2 and 3, Umm Suqeim 3, Al Manara, Al Safa 2, Jumeirah 2, Za’abeel 2, and Oud Maitha. The scope of work includes maintaining pedestrian paving, intersections, service roads, and shared pavements for pedestrians and cyclists. It also involves repairing pavements affected by subsidence, erosion, breakage, or tile loss due to misuse or environmental factors.

Lootah highlighted RTA’s commitment to adopting the latest global technologies and advanced maintenance practices, ensuring the highest levels of safety for road users and supporting Dubai’s urban growth and development.
