Meliá Bilbao Launches The Level and New Sumendi Restaurant

The Meliá Bilbao hotel unveils a complete renovation featuring the exclusive The Level service and the Basque cuisine-focused Sumendi restaurant to enhance its experiential offerings.

Meliá Bilbao, part of the Meliá Hotels & Resorts brand, is embarking on a new phase following a comprehensive renovation that includes the exclusive service “The Level” and the culinary proposal “Sumendi,” centered around Basque cuisine. This aims to enhance its experiential offerings and position it as a meeting point of design, culture, and gastronomy in Bilbao.

The building, designed by Ricardo Legorreta, retains its iconic identity while the spaces have been reinterpreted to be more open, bright, and contemporary, in constant dialogue with the urban environment of the city.

With respect to “The Level,” the distinctive proposal seeks a more personalized experience, offering premium category rooms and access to private spaces and an exclusive lounge, creating more intimate and comfortable stays tailored to each guest’s preferences.

The hotel features 210 rooms across 12 categories, 7 of which are “The Level” with a total of 47 rooms under this service, including Junior Suites, Suites, and Grand Suites. All rooms provide views of the urban center, Doña Casilda Park, or the Nervión river, designed to offer spaciousness with an aesthetic combining noble materials with contemporary sensibility.

Additionally, Meliá Bilbao boasts a wellness area on the sixth floor equipped with a semi-covered pool and sauna, offering views of the mountains—a space designed for relaxation and maintaining balance in the heart of the city.

“Sumendi” redefines the dining experience by placing fire as a central theme, focusing on grilled meats and fish made from seasonal, locally sourced products to enhance their flavor and promote a cuisine that is honest, sustainable, and connected to the land.

This restaurant is designed for both guests and the local public, establishing itself as a new meeting point in the culinary scene of Bilbao. Overall, the renovation consolidates Meliá Bilbao as a premium accommodation that integrates architecture, gastronomy, and experience to attract contemporary travelers while maintaining a close connection to its local environment.
