Western Sydney's New Airport Set to Launch First International Flights

Singapore Airlines announces the start of daily non-stop flights from Singapore to Western Sydney International from November 23, 2026.

Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport (WSI) has achieved a significant milestone, as tickets for its inaugural international flights are available for purchase today through Singapore Airlines.

For locals in Western Sydney, this moment marks the introduction of a much-anticipated second international gateway, designed with contemporary travel needs in mind.

Starting November 23, 2026, Singapore Airlines will operate daily non-stop flights between Singapore Changi Airport and Western Sydney International, pending regulatory approval. This new service will operate as SQ201 to Western Sydney and SQ202 on the return, supplementing the airline’s existing four services to Sydney Kingsford Smith and elevating total daily flights to five.

The schedule aims to enhance connections and convenience; SQ201 is set to depart Singapore at 11:30 AM and arrive in Western Sydney at approximately 10:20 PM, an ideal time for arrivals. Conversely, the return flight SQ202 will leave WSI at 11:55 PM, reaching Singapore at 5:05 AM, perfectly timed for morning connections across Asia, Europe, and beyond.

Onboard Experience

Singapore Airlines plans to use its Airbus A350-900 medium-haul aircraft for this route, which features a configuration of 303 seats – 40 in business class and 263 in economy class, providing a balance of premium and budget-friendly options for both leisure and business travelers.

Previous passengers of the A350-900 will appreciate its quieter cabins, improved air quality, and spacious feel compared to older models. Together with Singapore Airlines’ renowned service and entertainment offerings, this route aims to attract those flying between Sydney and Europe, Southeast Asia, or even on to North America.

Importance for Western Sydney Travelers

This new airport is not merely another runway; it represents the first major international airport constructed in Australia in over 50 years. Designed for 24/7 operations, WSI promises to significantly reduce travel time to the airport and alleviate some of the congestion at Kingsford Smith.

With late-night departures from Western Sydney, travelers can avoid peak hour traffic when heading to Mascot for lengthy flights, instead opting for a more convenient evening check-in.

A Gateway for One of Australia’s Fastest-Growing Regions

This daily connection to Singapore – a leading global aviation hub – is pivotal for the visitor economy in Western Sydney. It facilitates greater access for international travelers arriving nearer to their accommodations, from the Blue Mountains and Penrith to Parramatta and beyond.

Furthermore, Singapore Airlines’ network of over 130 destinations will allow Western Sydney residents one-stop access to key markets throughout Asia, Europe, India, and Africa.

With expected competition from more airlines in the future, WSI is set to become a viable alternative to Kingsford Smith for travelers seeking better scheduling, reduced congestion, and potentially lower fares.

Conclusion

Regular Sydney flyers, whether for business, family visits, or embarking on long-haul trips, will find that Western Sydney International will transform their travel equation substantially.

With Singapore Airlines as the inaugural international carrier providing daily A350-900 services alongside favorable late-night departures, WSI is poised to be an appealing travel option for anyone residing in the Greater West.
