The 2026 Taipei Cycle Show, led by Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) and the Cycling & Health Tech Industry R&D Centre (CHC), has unveiled significant advancements in smart cycling technology and sustainability. This year’s event, which began in March, showcases Taiwan’s integration of bicycle manufacturing with advanced Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

A standout feature is the Cycling Common Protocol Alliance (CCPA), aimed at enhancing system interoperability across the bicycle and ICT industries. The CHC introduced the Ebike Common Protocol Domestic Chip Prototype, integrating Taiwan-made chips with the CCPA CAN Bus protocol. This allows seamless integration across various Ebike components, including the cycle computer, motor controller, and battery management system.

The MOEA and CHC are also advancing rider safety and comfort through artificial intelligence. The new AI Ebike features Vision Sensing and Dynamic Damping, utilizing AI-driven detection to identify surroundings in real time and detect potential dangers. This is achieved through the CCPA common protocol, ensuring coordinated intelligent assistance.

Additionally, the Taiwan cycling industry is prioritizing sustainability through the Bicycling Alliance for Sustainability (BAS). Supported by the Industrial Development Administration of the MOEA, BAS focuses on sustainable manufacturing and low-carbon materials. The initiative aligns with international sustainability standards, promoting human rights, structured education, and hosting the ESG Global Initiative Forum.

Taiwan’s MOEA and CHC are committed to fostering a smarter and greener cycling industry through the CCPA and the Net Zero Carbon Emission Promotion Programme. This comprehensive roadmap includes innovation and carbon footprint assessment, focusing on process efficiency, design optimization, and material reduction. Taiwan is steadfastly moving towards a sustainable future while maintaining its global role in high-tech innovation and environmental stewardship.
