
San José Airport Unveils AI-Powered Robot to Enhance Passenger Experience
San José Mineta International Airport has introduced a humanoid robot named José, developed by IntBot, to assist travelers.
San José Mineta International Airport has unveiled an AI-powered humanoid robot named José, developed by local startup IntBot, to enhance passenger experience. Stationed at Terminal B, Gate 24, José will greet travelers, answer questions, and provide real-time information in 50 languages, showcasing Silicon Valley’s innovative spirit.
The introduction of José is part of a four-month pilot program aimed at exploring how artificial intelligence can improve customer service and operational efficiency at the airport. San José City Manager Jennifer Maguire highlighted the city’s commitment to innovation, stating, “Introducing IntBot at SJC reflects our commitment to thoughtful innovation that strengthens customer service whilst supporting our city’s reputation as a global technology hub.”
With the upcoming FIFA World Cup expected to draw thousands of visitors, San José Mayor Matt Mahan emphasized the importance of this initiative, noting that IntBot will provide clear directions and real-time terminal information to international visitors. Mookie Patel, director of aviation at San José Mineta International Airport, added, “By piloting IntBot, we’re exploring how artificial intelligence can enhance the passenger journey whilst reinforcing SJC’s role as the gateway to Silicon Valley.”
IntBot’s CEO, Lei Yang, expressed excitement about the deployment, stating, “This deployment at San José Mineta International Airport marks an important milestone in bringing socially intelligent robots into one of the busiest public hubs.”
The initiative aligns with San José’s broader commitment to responsible innovation and aims to maintain the airport’s reputation as the Bay Area’s simplest and most convenient airport.
