Eden Project Marks 25 Years with a 300-Voice Choir Performance
The Eden Project celebrated its 25th anniversary with a magnificent choir performance featuring 300 voices from local groups, highlighting its impact on the community and the environment.
The Eden Project, a key educational charity focused on the environment, commemorated its 25th anniversary on March 17 with a spectacular performance by a 300-voice choir comprised of 16 local community groups from Cornwall. The event featured an original composition and concluded with the song “Cornwall My Home,” performed by its creator, Harry Glasson. In addition to the music, a five-tier cake celebrated the milestone, cut by co-founder Sir Tim Smit and CEO Andy Jasper.
Since its inception in 2001, the Eden Project has welcomed over 25 million visitors and has had a £6.8 billion economic impact on the South West. The initiative has created approximately 700 jobs each year and allowed more than one million schoolchildren to explore nature-based learning. Sir Tim Smit reflected, “Eden has always been a people story… What you see here today is the power of collective imagination, made real.”
The anniversary also coincided with English Tourism Week, emphasizing the sector’s significant £127 billion contribution to the UK economy. It paid homage to Sir Ronnie Hampel and Sir Nicholas Grimshaw, who played crucial roles in establishing the Eden Project.
Significantly, the legacy of the Eden Project includes its renowned Biomes and the Core building, inaugurated by Queen Elizabeth II in 2005. The project remains at the forefront of environmental and educational innovation with ongoing international projects in countries like China and Costa Rica. CEO Andy Jasper remarked, “Eden exists to show how powerful environmental storytelling can inspire real change.”
Looking ahead, Eden plans to unveil new attractions in 2026, such as a Japanese tree exhibit and the Giant Marble Runs installation. The mission continues to emphasize nature-based wellness and extending its educational outreach.
