Agoda Reports Surge in Travel Interest for Holi Festivities in India

A significant rise in travel interest for India's Holi festival has been reported by Agoda, particularly in cities known for their festive celebrations.

Digital travel platform Agoda has reported a significant increase in travel interest for India’s Holi festival, with destinations like Jaipur, Udaipur, and Vrindavan seeing a notable surge in accommodation searches.

The data, collected for the recent Holi week, highlights a growing trend in both domestic and international travel to these culturally rich locations.

Jaipur, renowned for its grand Holi celebrations, experienced a 282% increase in accommodation searches compared to the previous year. Udaipur followed closely with a 233% rise, attracting visitors to its lakeside festivities. Pushkar, known for its vibrant street gatherings, saw a 195% increase, whilst Vrindavan recorded a 126% rise, drawing travelers to its temple courtyards for traditional celebrations.

The trend extends beyond Rajasthan, with Mathura and Hampi also witnessing increased interest. Mathura, the birthplace of Lord Krishna, saw a 109% rise, whilst Hampi’s UNESCO-listed ruins attracted 128% more searches. Shanti Niketan in West Bengal, famous for its Basanta Utsav, registered a 43% increase.

Internationally, Udaipur saw a 459% surge in searches from Asia, with Jaipur experiencing a 191% growth. This rise was driven by travelers from Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Japan, and South Korea. Gaurav Malik, Country Director for Agoda, noted, “Holi has evolved into a key travel moment, drawing visitors to India’s distinctive cultural experiences.”

Agoda aims to facilitate holiday planning by offering a diverse range of accommodations, flights, and activities, making it easier for travelers to enjoy special occasions like Holi.
