Hurtigruten Launches New Route Connecting Copenhagen and the Arctic

Hurtigruten has revealed a new route from Copenhagen to Tromsø, enhancing its offerings in coastal Norway and catering to increasing travel demand.

Hurtigruten, Norway’s iconic coastal cruise operator, has announced a new route connecting Copenhagen to Tromsø via the North Cape, providing travelers with a seamless journey from mainland Europe to the Arctic Circle. This itinerary is part of three new sailings that further establish Hurtigruten’s commitment to authentic, slower-paced travel experiences.

Bookings opened: February 12, 2026, with the first voyages set to depart in 2027.

From Copenhagen to the Arctic Frontier

The Copenhagen–Tromsø route promises an opportunity to discover Norway’s stunning fjords and fishing villages aboard the M/S Trollfjord. Starting from Denmark’s capital, guests will enjoy various breathtaking stops before reaching the North Cape, Europe’s most northern point.

“This new route provides a chance for both Scandinavian locals and international visitors to explore the Norwegian coast,” said Hedda Felin, CEO of Hurtigruten. “Starting from Copenhagen, guests can relish the beauty of fjords and coastal towns at a leisurely pace—a genuine celebration of authentic Norwegian travel.”

Surge in Travel Demand from Scandinavia

This expansion comes as travel interest increases from Scandinavian regions. Danish bookings rose by 17%, while Swedish travelers grew by 20% between 2024 and 2025, reflecting a heightened interest in regional exploration.

Copenhagen Malmö Port AB expressed excitement over this initiative, with Luis de Carvalho, the Commercial Cruise Director, stating, “Hurtigruten’s strong tradition and focus on genuine experiences align seamlessly with Copenhagen’s status as a leading cruise port.” He further highlighted that extending operations into winter will promote year-round tourism.

A New Era of Coastal Cruising

Along with the Copenhagen–Tromsø route, Hurtigruten plans to launch two other itineraries:

  • A week-long fjord trip from Bergen, showcasing Norway’s natural beauty.
  • A round-trip journey from Tromsø, navigating Northern Norway’s Arctic coast.

Passengers aboard M/S Trollfjord can expect and enjoy locally sourced menus, extended port stays, and excursions designed with local communities in mind, alongside onboard lectures and experiences celebrating Norway’s maritime heritage.

Genuine Travel Experience, Norwegian Style

With a legacy dating back to 1893, Hurtigruten is redefining sustainable travel. These new routes allow travelers to connect with Norway’s landscape authentically, combining comfort with culture and conservation.

For those seeking a journey where the travel itself is the destination, Hurtigruten’s new Copenhagen–North Cape sailing presents an unforgettable experience—where Nordic charm converges with breathtaking natural beauty.
