Tan will lead the development of Therme Singapore, Asia’s first next-generation urban wellbeing destination at Marina South.

Therme Group has announced the appointment of Tan Boon Khai as the new CEO for Therme Group Singapore. With over thirty years of experience in both public and private sectors, Tan will oversee the development of Therme Singapore, Asia’s first advanced urban wellness destination at Marina South, as part of the group’s worldwide growth into the expanding wellness sector.
Robert Hanea, founder and CEO of Therme Group, expressed his excitement saying, “We warmly welcome Boon Khai as a key member of Therme Group as we embark on our global expansion.” Hanea added that Tan brings a proven history in development, management, and hospitality, crucial for evolving Therme’s wellness experience in Singapore.
Additionally, Mah Bow Tan, chairman of Therme Group Asia, noted that Tan’s leadership and well-established relationships would be vital in making Therme Singapore a landmark wellness location, enhancing the new Marina South coastal area’s vibrancy. He stated, “Therme Group’s entry into Singapore marks a significant milestone in realizing our vision of making wellness accessible to all.”
Getting to Know Tan Boon Khai
Before his role at Therme, Tan was the CEO of JTC Corporation, where he led numerous transformations in Singapore’s industrial landscape. His previous positions include chief executive of the Singapore Land Authority and senior vice-president at CapitaLand. He also was the regional general manager for Ascott Limited, the largest serviced residence operator globally.
Tan, a trained lawyer, started his career as a law clerk and has worked extensively within both the government and private sectors.
Tan’s Vision for Singapore
He expressed joy about his appointment: “I am honored to join Therme Group at such an exciting moment in its global journey. Singapore is uniquely positioned to become a leading hub for urban wellbeing in Asia.”
Therme Group aims to establish a S$1 billion, state-of-the-art wellness resort in Singapore by 2030. This facility will be Asia’s first large-scale social wellness development, located on a four-hectare waterfront next to Marina Barrage and Gardens by the Bay. The aim is to make wellness accessible to all while fostering healthy living, social connectivity, and community vitality. It is projected to draw approximately two million visitors annually, half of whom will be from abroad.
