Higatangan Island
With the possibility of featuring Higatangan Island in the 2027-2028 cruise season, the island’s prospects brightened following an assessment by Ponant’s director of cruise research, Sylvianne de Tracy, and other stakeholders, including Errol James Chicano from Intercruises and Vhino Alegarbes from Travel People Ltd. They explored various locations on the island to evaluate its viability for cruise itineraries.
The team observed Higatangan’s pristine coastal landscapes and rich cultural offerings, finding the island ready for inclusion in luxury cruising plans. Local authorities hailed the visit as pivotal in positioning Higatangan on the global cruise tourism map.
The potential for increased tourism could help sustain and preserve the island’s unique environment and culture. Previously, the Australian cruise ship MV Coral Geographer docked on Higatangan Island, providing guests with immersive cultural experiences.
