Vientiane Sees Significant Surge in Tourist Visits in 2025

Vientiane exceeded its annual tourism targets in 2025, welcoming more than 2.2 million visitors and generating significant revenue.

The Department of Culture of Vientiane Capital has announced that Vientiane welcomed over 2.2 million visitors in 2025, surpassing its tourism target while generating over US$621 million in revenue.

According to a report released on January 27, this was a notable improvement from the previous year, where only 1.7 million visitors were recorded with revenues of over US$490 million.

Several cultural and heritage sites were major attractions, including the Ho Phrakeo Museum, Wat Sisaket, and Pha Thatluang, which collectively recorded over 208,500 visits mainly from international tourists.

As part of Laos’ broader tourism strategy, authorities aim to attract over 43 million visitors nationally within the next five years, including 22 million international tourists, to generate at least US$13 billion in revenue. Future plans will focus on enhancing tourism standards and preserving cultural heritage to ensure sustainable growth and bolster Vientiane’s appeal as a premier destination.
