Air India has unveiled new custom-designed cabin interiors for its inaugural Boeing 787-9 aircraft, signifying a key advancement in its Vihaan.AI transformation initiative. The aircraft, registered as VT-AWA, was delivered on January 11, 2026, and is slated to begin commercial flights between Mumbai and Frankfurt on February 1, 2026.

The interiors, created in partnership with JPA Design, showcase Air India’s revitalized global branding. The interior color scheme incorporates soft cream, pink, red, warm gold, and deep purple, providing travelers with an immersive experience of luxurious comfort and modern Indian culture. The Business Class will feature 30 premium suites equipped with Bluetooth pairing and wireless charging capabilities. Additionally, the Premium Economy and Economy cabins enhance comfort levels and offer advanced inflight entertainment.

Campbell Wilson, Air India’s CEO, remarked, “The arrival of this new Boeing 787-9 marks a significant milestone in Air India’s ongoing transformation efforts through the Vihaan.AI program.”

The new cabin designs will be implemented across Air India’s Boeing 787 fleet, which includes 19 more units set for production and modifications of all existing 26 Boeing 787-8 aircraft. The refurbishment process is underway, with the first upgraded aircraft expected to resume service shortly and the remaining ones by mid-2027.

Air India’s transformation strategy aims at positioning the airline as a premier global carrier, planning to expand its fleet, enhance infrastructure, and establish a new flight training academy and maintenance facility.
