Foreign tourists transiting through Manila via Philippine Airlines (PAL) can now enjoy the city sights through the Department of Tourism’s (DOT) Transit Tours. These excursions offer a safe and efficient bus tour that showcases the iconic attractions of the capital.
Earlier today, DOT officials announced that the Transit Tours are bookable via PAL’s official website and the LovePH mobile application, making it easier for eligible passengers to explore Manila’s cultural heritage rather than waiting at the airport for connecting flights.
The partnership with PAL aims to enhance visitor experience and promote the Philippines even to travelers just passing through its main airport.
According to Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco: “We express our warmest gratitude to our colleagues in the private sector for supporting our initiative to maximize the potential of our tourist spots and extend an invitation to foreign travelers who are just passing by.” Frasco emphasized that this program creates multiple opportunities across the tourism value chain, enabling Filipinos to earn a living and enhancing the overall visitor experience.
Time Well Spent
This program initially launched in December 2025 aims to improve the country’s gateways while generating livelihoods for local tourism stakeholders. It is open to passengers from visa-free countries who have layovers of at least eight hours, including a two-hour allowance for immigration and airport procedures.
Beginning January 30, the Transit Tours will include trips to four key destinations: Intramuros and the National Museum in Manila in the morning, followed by entertainment venues such as Solaire Resort and Okada Manila in Parañaque City in the evening.
Each 49-seater air-conditioned bus tour runs for four hours: two hours for travel and two hours for touring with a DOT-accredited guide, plus an hour of free time. The cost is $50 per person, which includes entrance fees, insurance for accidental death and medical expenses, bottled water, and a poncho for rain.
