On Sunday, a train belonging to Iryo, traveling from Málaga to Madrid, derailed within the municipal area of Adamuz (Córdoba). Upon leaving the tracks, three of its cars invaded the opposing track, where an Alvia train was traveling towards Huelva. The collision was immediate, resulting in the first two cars of the Alvia falling down an embankment of approximately four meters, with additional cars from both trains sustaining damage or detaching from the tracks.
The accident has resulted in at least 39 fatalities and over 150 injuries, some severe. The trains have been partially destroyed and the tracks rendered inoperable, leading to the complete suspension of all high-speed services between Madrid and Andalusia.
