Philippines Showcases Sogod Bay as a Prime Diving Destination
The Philippine Department of Tourism promotes Sogod Bay as an emerging global diving hotspot, aiming to attract more international divers.
The Philippine Department of Tourism (DOT) is promoting Sogod Bay in Southern Leyte as a rising global dive destination. This initiative follows a showcase of the area’s underwater wonders at Salon de la Plongée 2026, one of the largest diving expos in the world.
DOT regional director for Eastern Visayas, Karina Rosa Tiopes, emphasized that the international exhibition, held from January 8 to 11, provided a vital opportunity to engage with the global dive market and attract more foreign divers.
Tiopes explained: “This is the second time that we have joined Salon de la Plongée. Our main goal is to expand our reach into the dive market and ultimately increase arrivals of dive enthusiasts.”
She added that Sogod Bay’s involvement highlights the country’s commitment to developing sustainable and high-quality dive tourism, establishing the destination as a must-visit within the Philippines’ diverse marine landscape.
The promotion was conducted via the DOT Philippines Pavilion, where its rich marine biodiversity was showcased. Important dive stakeholders from Eastern Visayas, including representatives from Sogod Bay Scuba Resort and Peter’s Dive Resort, engaged with visitors to share insights about the region’s unique underwater attractions.
DOT officials are optimistic that the exposure in Paris will result in increased international arrivals and enhanced visibility for Sogod Bay as one of the Philippines’ leading dive hotspots.
