Thailand to Open the 2026 MotoGP World Championship

Thailand is set to host the opening round of the MotoGP World Championship for the second consecutive year, highlighting its capability in hosting significant international sporting events.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has confirmed the nation will host the opening round of the 2026 MotoGP World Championship from February 27th to March 1st at the Chang International Circuit. This marks the second consecutive year Thailand will open the global sporting event, reflecting its capability to host world-class events.

According to TAT governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool: “MotoGP symbolizes much more than merely a sporting event for the country. It is a global spectacle that attracts high-quality attendees, particularly motorsport aficionados who travel in groups, stay longer, and explore other regions of Thailand, generating significant income for local communities.”

The PT Grand Prix of Thailand 2026 will occur in Buri Ram, led by the Sports Authority of Thailand and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, together with various sector partners, including TAT. As a cornerstone in the country’s sports tourism strategy, Thailand has extended its hosting contract through 2031, ensuring a robust framework for planning and hosting.

Projected attendance for the event exceeds 220,000, with estimated tourism revenue surpassing 5 billion Baht. This event not only showcases Thailand as a premier destination for international motorsport but also strengthens its appeal as a top-tier travel destination.

Beyond racing, the event promises numerous activities, including meet-and-greet sessions with riders, live entertainment, and interactive spectator zones that celebrate Thai culture, transforming the race weekend into a significant international festival.
