Boutique Resorts Focus on Conservation as Eco-Conscious Travel Increases

Boutique resorts are shifting from traditional tourism to conservation-oriented hospitality, enhancing guest loyalty while nurturing local ecosystems.

The Golden Tusk is redefining the boutique resort model by emphasizing conservation-led hospitality over typical tourist attractions. Since opening in 2012, it has set guest loyalty and preserving the local ecosystem of Jim Corbett National Park as its core objectives.

Located in a stunning landscape, the resort provides access to endless wildlife experiences. With its intimate service, the resort continually aims to enhance guest experiences. In a discussion with TDM, Anirudh Lakhotia, Director at Ivory Destinations, elaborates on how the resort nurtures its guest relationships.

Travel Daily Media (TDM): How do you foster a personal connection for repeat visitors?

Anirudh Lakhotia (AL): To encourage leisure repeat visits, we balance familiarity with new experiences through our dedicated team, who provide a sense of comfort and security. By employing familiar faces and constantly evolving our services, we keep guests eager to return.

Over the past 13 years, we have learned and adapted, striving to meet the needs of discerning visitors while remaining true to our roots.

TDM: Can you share how you engage loyal customers to promote your brand?

AL: We have enjoyed unwavering support from guests who recommend us to their friends and family. One particular family has been visiting annually since our establishment. The youngest member, who was three when he first came, now refers to The Golden Tusk as his second home, exemplifying the deep connections we’ve built.

TDM: What recruitment challenges do you encounter?

AL: Sourcing talent amid industry expansion is challenging. Finding candidates with domain knowledge and a stable career history is increasingly difficult. We prioritize referrals as trust is built faster, enhancing long-term relationships with employees.

TDM: Who makes up your primary clientele?

AL: Our core guests seek intimate holidays in family units or friend groups, primarily from across India and occasionally from countries like France, the UK, and the US.

TDM: Why is focusing on experiences vital for boutique resorts?

AL: Today’s travelers prefer immersive experiences instead of merely ticking items off a traditional tourist list. They increasingly seek to engage meaningfully with their destination, making it essential for resorts to enhance their experiential offerings.

TDM: How does your resort philosophy involve conservation?

AL: Conservation is integral to our philosophy. We educate guests from the first inquiry about our traveler’s code of conduct, which outlines respectful behaviors during their stay and in the surrounding area. Ongoing engagement and collaboration with the forest department further illustrate our commitment to sustainability.
