Costa del Sol Achieves Record Tourism Numbers and Employment in 2025

The Costa del Sol reports historic tourism figures with over 14 million visitors and the highest employment in tourism ever recorded.

Tourism Costa del Sol has released its 2025 tourism report during a press conference, highlighting key indicators that confirm the destination’s historic performance. The report indicated that Costa del Sol achieved the highest level of tourism employment in its history, coinciding with sustained growth in profitability and consolidation of the strategic model initiated in recent years.

During the event, Francisco Salado, President of the Málaga Diputación and Tourism Costa del Sol, stated that 2025 was an extraordinary year for their main industry, not just due to the records reached, but also because it confirmed progress in the right direction. He emphasized that the rise in employment, profitability, and revenues—outpacing visitor growth—demonstrates the success of their strategy to prioritize quality over quantity.

Costa del Sol attracted a total of 14.65 million tourists in 2025, marking a 1.19% increase from the previous year. The generated income from tourism activities reached €21.8 billion, representing a 2.8% rise and consolidating a more profitable sector. This data has strengthened the destination’s position as a leading tourism reference in Andalucía, Spain, and Europe.

One of the most notable indicators from the report was the 10% increase in tourism employment, reaching 152,162 occupied persons according to the Active Population Survey. Salado pointed out that this employment boost, three percentage points higher than in 2024, is particularly significant as it reflects the real impact of tourism on the economy and society of the province. Additionally, it was noted that tourism jobs are now more stable, better qualified, and more capable of generating wealth.

In terms of profitability, hotel RevPAR grew by 7.21%, now standing at €108.2, while the regulated tourist accommodation supply reached 701,994 places, a 6.5% increase compared to 2024. The Málaga-Costa del Sol airport recorded 13.3 million passengers, a 7.3% rise, confirming the destination’s good air connectivity.

The president cautioned that these results should not lead to complacency, as the international context remains uncertain. He added that Tourism Costa del Sol continues to work alongside the sector and other administrations to enhance the destination’s competitiveness, advance in reducing seasonality, and establish a sustainable tourism model that generates employment.

The final balance highlighted the positive outlook for the first quarter of 2026, with a 6.2% increase in the number of flight seats, reinforcing growth prospects. Thus, Costa del Sol closed 2025 as its best tourism year in history, solidifying a model focused on quality, profitability, and job creation.
