The 15th Shanghai Biennale: Does the Flower Hear the Bee?
The Shanghai Biennale opened on November 8, 2025, at the Power Station of Art, featuring a curated selection by Kitty Scott alongside co-curators Daisy Desrosiers and Xue Tan. With over 250 works by 67 artists worldwide, including 16 from China, the Biennale highlights the junction of human and nonhuman intelligence via art.
This year’s theme focuses on how art serves as a medium to discover new forms of communication and intellect, underlining the hope of forging connections among various life forms in a world filled with uncertainty. The exhibition, designed by Rachaporn Choochuey of allzone, reimagines the venue as a sprawling landscape, inviting attendees to explore and contemplate freely.
Moreover, City Projects extend the exhibition’s reach to notable locations across Shanghai, such as the Jia Yuan Hai Art Museum and the Shanghai Botanical Garden, promoting an interaction between artistry and the urban ecosystem. Artists like Maxime Cavajani, Theaster Gates, and Liu Shuai feature prominently, displaying their works throughout the city.
The Biennale will continue until March 31, 2026, providing artists a stage to explore themes of connection and perception. Accompanying the event are publications including a 400-page catalogue that deepens understanding of the exhibited works and the curators’ insights, aimed at enriching the visitor experience.
