Ongoing Travel Disruptions at Indian Airports

IndiGo has faced significant service interruptions recently, announcing the cancellation of over 175 flights. The airline attributes these disruptions to a shortage of pilots, following the implementation of new government regulations aimed at managing pilot fatigue, which took effect on July 1 and November 1.

In a public statement, IndiGo expressed that its operations have been “significantly disrupted” over the past two days as a result of unforeseen circumstances, including adverse weather and increased congestion.

The airline has acknowledged that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) raised concerns over crew scheduling and flight duty time limitations, which have further impacted passenger travel.

IndiGo is currently making “calibrated adjustments” to its operations, anticipating a return to normalcy within approximately 48 hours. This includes redeploying crew members to high-demand routes, adjusting night flight schedules, and executing pre-planned cancellations to minimize last-minute operational chaos.
