Launch of the ‘Meaningful Travel Map of England’

VisitBritain and Tourism Cares collaborate on a new digital tool to promote responsible tourism in England.

VisitBritain/VisitEngland and Tourism Cares have launched the Meaningful Travel Map of England, a digital resource designed to showcase tourism experiences that yield real social, cultural, and environmental benefits across the nation. This initiative builds on the existing Meaningful Travel Map of Scotland, introduced in 2024.

The Map enables travelers to discover experiences that uplift local communities, safeguard natural and cultural resources, and foster a more inclusive tourism economy. Each partner featured on the Map is chosen based on their demonstrated positive impacts and dedication to responsible tourism.

Created in partnership with Local Visitor Economy Partnership (LVEP) destinations, the Map underscores VisitBritain/VisitEngland’s commitment to regenerative travel, advocating for travel that enhances the regions visited. It categorizes impacts into four areas: people, places, partnerships, and growth.

Carl Walsh, VisitBritain’s Senior Vice President, stated: “Partnering with Tourism Cares reflects our commitment to responsible travel. This new map for England builds on the Meaningful Travel Map already available in Scotland, showcasing Britain’s wide range of responsible tourism experiences. It makes it easier for visitors from the US and around the world to explore thoughtfully while connecting with local communities, supporting small businesses, and protecting the landscapes and heritage that make these destinations so special.”

Currently, the resource features over 30 partners across England, including community-led initiatives, inclusive cultural organizations, and sustainability-focused accommodations, with more partners expected to join soon. The following are some of England’s listed partners:
