French Golfer Nastasia Nadaud Triumphs in Andalucía Costa del Sol Open Presented by Oysho

Nastasia Nadaud achieved a stunning comeback to win her first Ladies European Tour title, overcoming a five-shot deficit.

The final day of the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open presented by Oysho witnessed one of the most remarkable comebacks in its history. French golfer Nastasia Nadaud, who started the day five strokes behind the previously unbeatable Trichat Cheenglab, delivered an impeccable round at the critical moment to overtake all her competitors. With a final score of 66 (-6) and a total of -16, Nadaud secured her first victory at the Ladies European Tour at just 21 years old, marking a triumph both spectacular and surprising at the day’s start.

Nadaud’s early round was a display of brilliance: a birdie on the first hole, another birdie on the third, an eagle on the par 5 fourth, followed by another birdie on the fifth propelled her rapidly into the lead. She played confidently, knowing the target was not just to reach the top but to maintain it. She finished the front nine at -15, already leading, and capped off her performance with three consecutive birdies on holes 10, 11, and 12. Standing at -18 with six holes left, she seemed poised to challenge the course record until two bogeys—on holes 13 and 16—brought her back, before closing the day with a controlled finish that secured her title by four strokes over Kirsten Rudgeley (-12). The golfers Kelsey Bennett, Olivia Cowan, Dorthea Forbrigd, and French player Perrine Delacour all concluded the event at -11.

Following her triumph, Nadaud acknowledged that her victory stemmed from intense learning: “It was a rollercoaster week, but I managed to play aggressively from the start and handle moments of tension better than before. I feel that I made a significant leap as a player.” She also expressed gratitude to her caddie and team for the trust they gave her during such a demanding Sunday.

For Trichat Cheenglab, it was an unexpected blow. The Thai leader began with a bogey on hole one and a double bogey on three, quickly losing her entire advantage. She attempted to rally with a birdie on four, but two additional bogeys on six and seven left her with no options, reminiscent of a script she had faced just three weeks earlier in China. From that point on, she could only watch as Nadaud pulled away to her first title, finishing with a double bogey on 18 to end the day seventh at -10.

In Spanish highlights, Andrea Revuelta, a promising amateur golfer from Madrid, completed an outstanding tournament, finishing fifteenth at -8, marking her as the best Spanish player of the championship and winning the Memorial Celia Barquín for the third consecutive year. Her start was phenomenal: birdies on one, consecutive birdies on four and five, followed by a brilliant eagle on seven that placed her just two strokes from the leaders. Although her final holes deprived her of an even higher finish, her performance captivated the audience in Malaga. “I played very well, quite calmly. Perhaps I missed making some putts, but I am proud of how I competed,” she expressed, visibly emotional about making such a significant achievement.

Carlota Ciganda and Azahara Muñoz, both two-time champions of the Open, bid farewell with a commendable -7, finishing tied for 16th. Carlota, solid from tee to green, lamented not finding her rhythm with the putter: “I played very well, but didn’t make anything. Sometimes, golf is like that.” She appraised her year with a “high pass” rating before taking a well-deserved break. Azahara, on the other hand, alternated between brilliance and inconsistency but once again showcased the competitiveness that has led her to win two titles in this tournament.

The event also crowned Shannon Tan as the new Order of Merit champion of the Ladies European Tour, outpacing her direct rival, Mimi Rhodes, after a season of remarkable consistency with two wins (three in her career on the European circuit). Tan thus completed an exceptional year, making consistency her main virtue.

The Real Guadalhorce Golf Club concluded a vibrant edition of the Spanish Open, filled with strong emotions, emerging talent, big names, and a devoted audience that accompanied every last putt of the European season.
