A Survey Reveals 25.9% of American Travelers Experienced Lost Luggage
A recent study indicates that losing luggage on flights is a common issue faced by travelers, especially in the U.S.
Losing luggage during a holiday is a dreaded experience for many travelers. A new survey conducted with over 3,000 participants from the U.S., Australia, and Canada found that 25.9% of American travelers have experienced luggage loss when flying. Comparatively, 20.4% of Australians and 30.4% of Canadians reported similar issues.
Most American travelers faced long waits for their luggage, and 6.9% never received their belongings. A notable 22.3% managed to recover their bags within hours.
Surprisingly, a significant 76.6% of individuals who lost their luggage did not receive any reimbursement from their airlines. Those who did receive compensation found it to be a meager average of $275.00. Moreover, many did not claim insurance for their lost luggage.
Adrian Taylor from Compare the Market emphasizes the importance of travel insurance to cover such scenarios. He explains, “If your airline loses your luggage, they might reimburse you for the loss, but delays could stretch for days or even weeks without your belongings.”
It’s essential to ensure that your travel insurance policy adequately covers loss, theft, and damages to enjoy a worry-free trip. Always review the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) to understand the policy’s terms and conditions.
