Agoda Reports Rising Interest in Solo Travel Across Asia
A notable 16% increase in accommodation searches by individual travelers has been observed.
Right on time for Singles’ Day on November 11, digital travel platform Agoda has released a report showcasing a rise in interest for solo travel in Asia for 2025. This indicates a shift towards travelers embracing the adventure and freedom that solo journeys offer.
This year’s data indicates a 16 percent increase in accommodation searches by solitary travelers compared to the previous year, underscoring a burgeoning trend.
Jay Lee, Agoda’s regional director for North Asia, states: “The rise in solo travel across Asia has become a defining trend in 2025 that reflects a growing desire for personal discovery and meaningful cultural immersion. Agoda is thrilled to support these journeys by offering a wide array of options tailored to solo travelers, ensuring they have everything they need to make their trips unforgettable.”
Where do solo travelers go?
Solo travelers tend to favor major cities, with Tokyo leading as the top destination, followed by Bangkok, Seoul, Osaka, and Kuala Lumpur. These cities provide a plethora of attractions, including cultural landmarks, fine dining, and vibrant entertainment, making them ideal for exploring at one’s own pace.
Where are these travelers from?
The surge in solo travel is notably led by travelers from Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, and Taiwan. Among these, Japanese travelers dominate in numbers, yet the interest in solo travel has surged the most among Indonesians, seeing a 72 percent increase in searches, with Thai travelers following closely at a 37 percent rise in interest.
This shift indicates how individuals across Asia are redefining their travel experiences, moving away from traditional group trips.
