China's Advancement in Domestic Cruise Ship Construction

The completion of the first phase of China's second domestically-built cruise ship marks a significant achievement for the country's shipbuilding industry.

Chinese officials have announced the completion of the first phase of the construction of the country’s second domestically-built large cruise ship on Wednesday, January 15. The milestone is being hailed as a demonstration of the expanding prowess and capacity of the domestic shipbuilding industry.

The new cruise ship is being constructed for Adora Cruises, a Chinese firm controlled by the China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), with Carnival Corporation as a minority investor.

CSSC Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Company chair Wang Qi commented, “It took us less than nine months to complete the hull structure assembly, two months sooner than the first one.”

The new ship, named Adora Flora City, boasts a gross tonnage of 141,800 and a length of 1,119 feet (341 meters). It is designed to accommodate up to 5,232 passengers and includes improvements in cabin designs and amenities.

Authorities assert that the construction speed for this cruise ship is now comparable to European shipbuilders, achieved after CSSC acquired significant technological expertise.
