Saudi Arabia's Red Sea EDITION: A New Era of Desert Luxury

The Red Sea EDITION hotel on Shura Island showcases sustainable luxury along Saudi Arabia’s pristine coast, marking a significant change in the Kingdom's tourism narrative.

Saudi Arabia’s hospitality scene just got a striking new symbol of transformation with the launch of The Red Sea EDITION, the first hotel to open on Shura Island. This solar-powered, design-driven sanctuary blends modern minimalism with the raw beauty of the desert and sea. It signifies a turning point in the Kingdom’s luxury narrative, moving from opulence to authenticity, from spectacle to soul.

The launch is timely, as Saudi Arabia’s tourism sector rewrites its global narrative. With over 100 million visitors in 2024 and targeting 150 million by 2030, the nation is emerging as a prominent destination now. Under the Vision 2030 initiative, Saudi Arabia is investing over $800 billion into tourism infrastructure, including mega-projects like NEOM and Diriyah, along with coastal marvels like The Red Sea, thereby positioning itself as a frontier for design-led, sustainable travel.

Now, at the core of this transformation is The Red Sea EDITION—a partnership between Marriott International, EDITION Hotels, and Red Sea Global (RSG), recognized for its regenerative tourism philosophy. The hotel’s arrival marks the start of Shura Island’s next chapter—an archipelago of 90 untouched islets surrounded by coral gardens and crystalline lagoons. Every aspect of the resort reflects RSG’s commitment to sustainability: solar power, locally sourced materials, and architecture that complements the natural landscape.

“The opening of The Red Sea EDITION marks a significant milestone in the brand’s continued growth across the region,” said George Fleck, EDITION’s Global Brand Leader. “As our second property in Saudi Arabia, this resort captures EDITION’s commitment to creating experiences that feel connected — to place, to people, to purpose.”

The 240-key resort features eco-friendly construction using rammed earth and natural oak, with coral-stone flooring and rooftops that undulate like reefs. Each suite includes private plunge pools and terraces opening up to sweeping views of the Red Sea, blurring indoor and outdoor spaces. Guests traveling through Red Sea International Airport will cross the country’s longest bridge to access this tranquil island.

The Red Sea EDITION is a bold statement of where Saudi Arabia’s tourism is heading, firmly placing the Kingdom on the global luxury map.
