The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) held a welcome event at Krabi International Airport for the inaugural flight of Etihad Airways from Abu Dhabi, UAE, on October 9, 2025. This significant development enhances air connectivity between Thailand and the Middle East, positioning Krabi as a key destination for beach, wellness, cultural, and sustainable tourism.
The ceremony was attended by key officials including Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Ms. Sasithorn Kittidhrakul, Mr. Chayatan Phromsorn, Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, Mr. Ratthasart Chidchoo, and Mr. Danai Ruengsorn, alongside TAT executives and tourism representatives from both the public and private sectors.
Passengers on flight EY424, operated by an Airbus A321LR with a capacity of 160 seats, were welcomed with traditional Thai performances and special souvenirs, exemplifying the hospitality characteristic of the Amazing Thailand brand.
The new route boosts seat capacity between Thailand and the Middle East by about 7,650 seats monthly, resulting in a 16% increase. This route significantly improves travel convenience and promotes tourism in the region.
Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor stated, “This new direct flight from Abu Dhabi to Krabi presents fresh opportunities for sustainable tourism development in Southern Thailand. TAT is dedicated to helping local destinations offer authentic experiences that marry cultural depth with environmental mindfulness and community participation.”
Ratthasart Chidchoo, Governor of Krabi Province emphasized, “Krabi is renowned for its breathtaking islands and marine attractions, and also for its rich cultural tourism experiences. Guests can immerse themselves in local lifestyles and unique experiences that make their visit to Krabi truly unforgettable.”
Krabi’s commitment to sustainability was further highlighted when the Lanta Archipelago National Park was recognized among Thailand’s top Green Destinations Stories for 2025. TAT’s collaboration with international airlines aims to draw high-value visitors seeking luxury, wellness, and halal-friendly experiences as part of Thailand’s evolving image as a global Medical and Wellness Hub.
To promote awareness of the new route, the TAT Dubai Office is organizing familiarization trips for Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, featuring local cuisine and cultural highlights.
From January to September 2025, Thailand welcomed around 618,000 visitors from the Middle East, with expectations of reaching 850,000 by year-end. Middle Eastern tourists typically spend about 10 days in Thailand, each averaging 104,000 Baht per trip, which underscores the kingdom’s tourism growth and its status as a premier global destination.
