The Sri Lankan boutique hospitality group Uga unveils a remarkable outdoor dining experience at its Cultural Triangle resort, Uga Ulagalla.
Highlighted by traditional Sri Lankan cooking rituals, Kamatha at Uga Ulagalla is now available year-round at the exclusive 58-acre estate near Anuradhapura, a city rich in ancient history.
Visitors to Kamatha will enjoy authentic family-style dining while learning about cherished Sri Lankan recipes and cooking practices. The experience showcases 25 local dishes prepared in front of them by local women, utilizing traditional methods and cinnamon wood fire cooking.
Owner and managing director Priyanjith Weerasooria expressed enthusiasm about sharing Sri Lanka’s ancient traditions with guests, noting a post-COVID trend in outdoor dining. He emphasized the significance of Kamatha in reconnecting travelers with the local community through a flavorful exploration.
The dining setting features Kamatha, an open-air rice paddy pavilion. Each evening, a beautifully arranged family-style table awaits guests, who will dine under the stars surrounded by paddy fields.
Participants will engage in an educational journey while savoring traditional dishes, learning from talented home cooks about ancestral recipes that have transcended generations.
This multi-course menu incorporates vegetables from Uga Ulagalla’s organic farm, local fish, and free-range meats, ensuring a sustainable dining experience. Highlights include Brinjal moju (sweet and sour eggplant), mutton curry, and a plethora of Sri Lankan desserts.
