Sabre Launches New AI-Driven Travel Solutions
Global travel technology firm Sabre Corporation has unveiled its first agentic travel solutions as of Tuesday, September 23.
Sabre has expanded its capabilities beyond traditional optimizations to introduce innovative AI-driven retail solutions focused on the travel sector. Central to this development is the implementation of agentic-ready APIs facilitated by a proprietary Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. This technology simplifies the complex language of travel technology for any AI agent, enabling seamless shopping, booking, service, and optimization of trips in real-time.
By harnessing the potential of agentic AI, Sabre aims to alleviate common pain points in the travel experience that often drain both time and patience. The initial features will target flights, hotels, and post-booking activities.
A World of Unbounded Opportunities
The possibilities for transforming travel through agentic AI are endless. For instance, potential agentic tools include:
- ROPS Call-Centre Proxy Agent: Waits on hold with airlines, secures same-day rebookings, manages payments, and updates travelers’ calendars automatically;
- Hotel Ops Agent: Confirms late arrivals and ensures room retention while making special requests for guests;
- Agent-to-Agent Collaboration Agent: Works with another agency’s AI to finalize complex arrangements;
- Visa & Compliance Agent: Handles online application processes and payments;
- Expense Filing Agent: Gathers receipts and automates report submissions.
Through the integration of Sabre’s MCP and agentic APIs, these time-consuming tasks can be automated, paving the way for enhanced efficiency and lower travel costs.
A New Era for Sabre IQ
At the core of this innovation is Sabre IQ, Sabre’s systemic AI framework. This technology has evolved from retail optimization to employing Large Language Model (LLM) technology, which allows AI to interact in natural, conversational terms.
Sabre IQ’s capabilities are underpinned by the vast Travel Data Cloud, developed in collaboration with Google, integrating over 50 petabytes of historical and real-time travel data, all of which is securely managed to meet legal obligations.
With such a comprehensive knowledge base, Sabre IQ positions itself as the most advanced travel intelligence provider, potentially capable of storing the entire written works of humanity multiple times over.
A Notable Advancement
According to Garry Wiseman, Sabre’s Chief Product and Technology Officer, there is a crucial distinction between being ‘smart’ and achieving genuine intelligence at scale. He stated:
“With our new MCP server and agentic-ready APIs supported by Sabre IQ and our industry-leading travel data set, we’re planting a stake in the ground. This is the smartest enterprise AI solution in travel, designed for the entire industry to build on. Future possibilities are becoming reality and Sabre is driving that change.”
Unlike disparate, one-off solutions, Sabre’s agentic functionalities originate from its integrated SabreMosaic cloud-native platform, ensuring that airlines, agencies, and developers can embrace agentic workflows effectively. The resulting benefits encompass reduced service costs, enhanced itineraries, and more personal upsell opportunities—ultimately heralding a new phase in travel retailing where AI seamlessly collaborates across the ecosystem, with Sabre leading the charge.
