Dubai Airports' Innovative Accessibility Solution Expands with 520 Hearing Loops

An impressive installation at Dubai International Airport enhances accessibility for travelers with hearing impairments.

Dubai Airports recently completed the installation of over 520 Hearing Loops at DXB

This initiative represents the largest deployment of such accessibility technology globally, catering specifically to travelers with hearing impairments. The project demonstrates DXB’s commitment to becoming the world’s most inclusive and accessible airport.

The hearing loops have been placed at essential points such as check-in counters, immigration desks, boarding gates, and information desks across the three terminals of DXB.

The system connects directly to hearing aids equipped with a telecoil (T) function, which allows users to activate it without needing to pair any additional devices.

The rollout was made possible through collaboration with the oneDXB community, comprising key partners like Emirates, flydubai, Dubai Police, and others.

“At Dubai Airports, we are committed to ensuring that every guest, regardless of ability, can navigate our terminals with ease, dignity, and confidence. The successful installation of over 520 Hearing Loops across DXB is a testament to the collaborative spirit of our oneDXB airport community.”

This project is in line with Dubai’s Universal Design Code, ensuring that public spaces are accessible. Furthermore, front-line staff have received specialized training to assist guests who need such support.

With the World Health Organization estimating that over 1.5 billion people live with some form of hearing loss, the need for effective communication systems is becoming increasingly critical at major travel hubs. The hearing loops initiative represents part of Dubai Airports’ ongoing efforts to enhance accessibility and improve the guest experience.
