Regular ITA Airways flyers will experience a number of changes, including terminal moves and integrations with Lufthansa’s Miles & More loyalty program.

ITA Airways flyers will now be able to use their miles for flights across Lufthansa Group’s network, while Miles & More flyers will be able to collect points when aboard the Italian airline.

The moves are part of the Lufthansa Group’s decision to fully integrate ITA starting on February 3, 2025.

Integration Includes Terminal Sharing, Code Sharing, and Lounge Sharing

Lufthansa’s integration of ITA Airways follows the minority stake it took into the carrier in 2023. After taking a $348 million investment for a 41% interest, ITA agreed to become the fifth network airline for the German company.

Effective immediately, Miles & More members can earn and redeem miles aboard ITA flights, while members of ITA’s Volare loyalty program can earn points when flying with Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, and Brussels Airlines.

As part of the integration, Lufthansa and ITA will provide qualifying flyers with mutual access to their airport lounges, granting ITA flyers access to around 130 new Lufthansa group lounges.

At Lufthansa hubs in Frankfurt and Munich, ITA will move their operations to the same terminal as Lufthansa’s airlines, with flights arriving and departing in Frankfurt’s Terminal 1 and Munich’s Terminal 2. Lufthansa reports that their operations are already consolidated at ITA’s hubs in Rome and Milan.

The two carriers plan to better align their schedules, enhancing connections between the major hubs — Frankfurt, Munich, Milan, and Rome — for comfortable long-haul transfer.

Additionally, ITA has begun its transition from the SkyTeam alliance to join Star Alliance, expected to be completed by the first half of 2026.
