Truely Unveils Pause and Resume Functionality for eSIM Users

Truely, a Singapore-based eSIM and travel technologies firm, has recently launched a new Pause and Resume feature for its app. This enhancement is aimed at providing travelers with more flexibility in managing their mobile data usage.

Flexibility for Travelers

With this feature, users can pause their data plan when it’s not needed and restart it whenever required, allowing for better control over data consumption. Travelers can now freeze a plan on a day-to-day basis, as long as they do so before the start of the next day.

The Issue of Breakage Travelers often encounter what is known as breakage, a situation where prepaid data disappears even when not in use. A report by Juniper indicated that roaming services alone are projected to generate more than US$10 billion, including unused data contributions. This issue is prevalent not just during international travel but also locally, where numerous plans do not allow for unused data rollover.

Moreover, according to OpenSignal, many travelers experience a significant connectivity gap, as they typically have 60% less access to 5G than locals due to inconsistent service and roaming traffic management.

A Fair Roaming Experience

The new feature stands as part of Truely’s broader initiative to create fairer roaming experiences for users. As stated by Simon Landsheer, the company’s founder and CEO:

“Breakage is an issue that has been normalized by the industry for the longest time. The goal is to restore fairness to a system that has silently profited from waste for decades. If we fix something as small but universal as breakage, we set a precedent for how technology should treat people everywhere: transparently, on their terms, and without hidden losses.”

Overall, Truely’s Pause and Resume feature aims to address the longstanding issues faced by travelers concerning mobile data management.
