British Travelers Face Sharp Rise in Flight Costs This August

UK travelers are facing significant price increases for flights during August, with Oslo showing the highest premiums.

Flight Price Increases for August 2025

Heathrow airport witnessed a remarkable 1.3 million passengers during its peak week in August last year, and predictions for 2025 suggest this will be exceeded, marking the busiest summer for UK airports yet.

Flight prices are skyrocketing, with families, holidaymakers, and business travelers all vying for limited seating. The overlap of peak summer leisure travel and the resumption of international business trips has created tight competition for affordable flights.

Through its analysis, leading business travel management company Good Travel Management identified the cities where UK travelers will incur the steepest airfare increases this August.

Most Affected Destinations

  1. Oslo:
    • Flight prices are expected to soar by 453%, averaging £105 compared to £19 during less busy periods.
  2. Copenhagen:
    • Prices are up by 452%, with averages reaching £127 in August, though they can be as low as £23 in mid-September.
  3. Stockholm:
    • A 326% increase results in averages of £115 for flights in August.
  4. Montreal and Berlin follow closely with spikes of 212% and 188% respectively.

Interestingly, both Montreal and Toronto saw significant demand, attributed to growing concerns regarding stricter US border control measures, prompting businesses to rethink attendance at US events.

Laura Busby shared advice on managing travel expenses during peak periods: “Whether for business or leisure, traveling during peak times is often unavoidable. However, options such as flying just after peak days, avoiding weekend departures, and early bookings can help mitigate costs. Collaboration with a travel management expert can also provide useful insights during the busy summer months.”
