Indonesian Ministry of Tourism Signs Agreements to Enhance National Tourism

The Indonesian Ministry of Tourism has formalized partnerships with key ministries to strengthen the country's tourism sector.

The Indonesian Ministry of Tourism signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with four ministries and agencies on Wednesday, August 13.

According to a report from Antara, these agreements signal the start of collaborative efforts designed to enhance the national tourism sector. The understandings were formalized with the following entities:

  • Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)
  • Ministry of Environment
  • National Nutrition Agency (BGN)
  • Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas)

For a Healthier and More Prosperous Nation

During the signing ceremony, tourism minister Widyanti Putri Wardhana stated: “Let us maintain and strengthen this spirit to realize a healthier, more prosperous, and sustainable Indonesia.”

Wardhana elaborated that the cross-sector initiative aims to support five flagship programs of her ministry:

  1. Clean Tourism Movement (GWB)
  2. Tourism 5.0
  3. Upgrading Tourism
  4. Events by Indonesia
  5. Development of Tourism Villages.

Additionally, cooperation with BGN will play a crucial role in promoting Indonesia’s Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program through the training and engagement of tourism villages.

The collaboration with the Ministry of MSMEs focuses on cultivating community-driven tourism and boosting product marketing while supporting small- and medium-scale investments.

The agreement with Basarnas addresses tourist safety and security, search and rescue training, and the establishment of an integrated communications system for tourist rescue operations.

Lastly, the partnership between the tourism and environment ministries emphasizes the development of sustainable tourism destinations and eco-friendly infrastructure. Deputy Minister Diaz Hendropriyono highlighted that cleanliness remains a significant challenge in fostering sustainable tourism.

Moreover, MSMEs minister Maman Abdurrahman noted the potential economic benefits arising from these agreements, which are expected to generate jobs, enhance state revenue, and spur tourism growth.

Basarnas head Mohammad Syafii expressed optimism that the MoU will facilitate more streamlined handling mechanisms and aid provisions for disaster victims.
