Alipay+ and Kaspi.kz Enhance International Payment Acceptance in Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan becomes the first nation in Central Asia to implement Alipay+, enabling local merchants to accept payments from international e-wallets and banking applications. Users of 12 apps enabled by Alipay+ can scan to pay through Kaspi QR, which boasts extensive nationwide merchant coverage, encompassing shopping, dining, attractions, convenience stores, healthcare, and even smaller towns.
In the first half of 2025, Kazakhstan recorded an impressive influx of 7.5 million foreign visitors, primarily from China, Germany, and South Korea. This initiative allows these travelers to smoothly utilize their Alipay+ enabled applications for payments.
Edward Yue, General Manager for SEA, South Asia and ANZ at Ant International, expressed excitement about the collaboration with Kaspi.kz. He stated: “We’re very excited to be strengthening our partnership with Kaspi.kz for both inbound and outbound cross-border mobile payments that benefits Kazakhstani travellers and businesses. As more people seek culturally rich and unique destinations, we will continue to work closely to promote vibrant and sustainable growth in Kazakhstan and the region.”
This aligns with the successful partnership initiated in April 2024, enhancing mobile payment capabilities for Kazakhstani travelers visiting countries such as China, Japan, and South Korea. Mikhail Lomtadze, CEO of Kaspi.kz, noted, “We’re taking our partnership one step further, making payments easier for guests visiting Kazakhstan.”
Alipay+ connects 1.7 billion user accounts from 36 international payment partners to over 100 million merchants in 70 markets.
