Francesco Sciortino Appointed to Lufthansa Airlines Executive Board

Francesco Sciortino, long-serving COO of Austrian Airlines, will be joining the Executive Board of Lufthansa Airlines as Hub Manager Frankfurt and Accountable Manager starting September 1, 2025.

Francesco Sciortino, the Chief Operating Officer of Austrian Airlines since April 1, 2021, is set to take on a new role within Lufthansa Airlines as Hub Manager for Frankfurt and Accountable Manager, effective September 1, 2025.

Throughout his tenure of over four years, Sciortino has significantly enhanced Austrian Airlines’ operations, contributing to its recognition as one of the top seven punctual airlines in Europe and securing several prestigious awards, including the Skytrax Best Airline Staff Europe Award in both 2023 and 2025. He recalls his journey, from co-pilot in 1997 to COO, and emphasizes the importance of fleet modernization through the introduction of new Airbus and Boeing aircraft.

“I approach my departure from Austrian Airlines with immense gratitude. I believe the airline is well-positioned for the future and I eagerly anticipate my new challenges at Lufthansa Airlines,” stated Sciortino.

Both the incoming Lufthansa Airlines executives and current Austrian Airlines management expressed appreciation for Sciortino’s impactful leadership. They believe his deep passion for airline operations will continue to yield positive advancements in his new position.
