Diriyah Company Grants Construction Contract for Arena Block to Chinese Engineers

Diriyah Company has formally awarded a contract valued at $1.53 billion (SAR 5.75 billion) to a division of the China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd for the establishment of the Arena Block. This district will encompass the multi-purpose indoor Diriyah Arena, three mixed-use office buildings, and a parking facility.

The Diriyah Arena is planned with a gross floor area (GFA) of approximately 74,000 square meters and is expected to host various events, including concerts, esports competitions, exhibitions, and live shows, allowing for a capacity of 20,000 spectators. The design by HKS Inc. draws inspiration from the natural surroundings and embodies traditional Najdi architectural aspects, harmonizing heritage with modern aesthetics.

The venue is set to be part of Diriyah’s broader community development, which includes cultural assets like the Royal Diriyah Opera House, numerous museums, and academies that reflect the architectural elements of the UNESCO-listed At-Turaif site.

With significant backing from the Public Investment Fund (PIF), the Diriyah project aims to provide housing for around 100,000 residents, create over 178,000 jobs, and attract approximately 50 million visitors annually, ultimately contributing around $18.6 billion (SAR 70 billion) to Saudi Arabia’s GDP.

The Arena will not only provide leisure opportunities but also foster a sense of community and enhance the overall quality of life in Diriyah.

A Monumental Initiative

In addition to the Diriyah Arena, the Arena Block project will include three office plots designed by John McAslan + Partners, covering around 114,000 square meters, equipped with advanced infrastructure. The contract stipulates the construction of over 4,000 parking spaces to support the events hosted at the Diriyah Arena as well as the office facilities.

Jerry Inzerillo, CEO of Diriyah Company, stated: “The iconic Diriyah Arena will be a landmark entertainment complex in Diriyah that reinforces the City of Earth’s growing global role in shaping Saudi Arabia’s artistic and cultural future, in alignment with Vision 2030.”

Yang Zhiyuan, CEO of China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd, commented: “This award marks a significant milestone for CHEC in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. We will mobilize the best resources and talents from across our international network and strive for excellence to ensure the successful and timely delivery of this world-class Arena.”

This contract is one of many pivotal milestones that Diriyah Company is achieving as it accelerates its development agenda for the area.
